David Squiress
Owner

Founder David Squires, with more than 20 years of experience, is the design powerhouse behind Design Works’ success. A master florist with down-to-earth charm, David sets the high standard and elegant tone of Design Works, while injecting a high level of creative energy throughout the company. From the unique gifts and tasteful home décor he chooses to feature within the store, to the planning and execution of elaborate events, David’s attention to detail is reflected at every level of the organization.

David, who attended Colorado State University majoring in business and accounting, was introduced to the floral trade in Louisville and Ft. Collins before accepting positions at Atmosphere and Salutations. Then in 2001, he and his partner Michael Roffino launched their own enterprise. Design Works by Dave and Mike has served clients all over the continental U.S. and Hawaii from their Denver based location. Design Works a Floral Studio is an extension of the original company, providing floral and event décor services throughout the greater Colorado Springs area.

During his career David and his team have won numerous ICON awards, the Colorado event industry's prestigious awards program produced by Confetti Magazine and New West Publishing. In March 2010 David was inducted into Colorado Meeting and Event’s Hall of Fame as Best Supplier.

Some words from David:
"In my work, I am primarily motivated by the thought of being able to tap into my love of design and know that we touch lives in a personal way with our creativity."

Krista Patton
Floral Designer

This Colorado Springs native brings an artistic eye to her craft, along with a wealth of floral design knowledge and experience. Krista has been designing floral arrangements for over 13 years and has 19 years of experience in the retail industry. She has studied under certified and award winning designers and thrives on learning new techniques. This expertise shines through in her daily work; Krista can whip up a new design style recipe easily, and then produce variations on the theme skillfully and efficiently. She’s also won some awards herself: People's Choice Best Floral Design at the 2008 & 2010 Glass Slipper Ball and the Scariest Scarecrow at the 2009 Old Colorado City Scarecrow Days
, also winning in 2011 the Best Hand made design Scarecrow. Krista is most content working behind the scenes, either standing amidst a pile of stems and leaves creating arrangements, ordering fresh stock, processing flower shipments, or helping to set up or take down another splendid event.

The creative impulse runs strong in Krista both at work and at home. In her spare time she paints fine art and faux finishes furniture. She also writes and illustrates children's stories.  She especially enjoys spending time with her two daughters, and extended family.

 Some words from Krista:
"Knowing a lot is not enough. Great floral design comes from continuous learning and creativity. At Design Works making something pretty every day is easy; I try to go beyond and constantly challenge myself to create something fabulous, amazing, different, and better than the day before."
